Renovation and extension of a family home within the Hampstead Conservation Area

Pilgrim’s Lane House

Location: Hampstead
Local Authority: London Borough of Camden
Size: 7,651 sqft

MWA have prepared proposals for the renovation and extension of a family home located within the Hampstead Conservation Area. The site is situated within a diverse vernacular which has developed largely in the Victorian era and 20th century. The existing building is arranged over four floors and is currently divided into two units. MWA’s proposal includes converting the property into a single dwelling, new double and single storey side extensions and a basement complete with a gym and swimming pool.

The proposal sympathises with the existing building’s character and vertical rhythm while rationalising the fenestration across the front and rear elevations. The proposed design reinstates the original corner of the property by introducing a gap with the neighbouring house. A local material palette of red brickwork, red pantiles and deep timber reveals is proposed to enhance the Arts and Crafts character of the property with a contemporary approach.
