Sensitive restoration of a Grade II Listed residence in Notting Hill
MWA have recently completed the refurbishment of a Grade II listed residence in Notting Hill.
The project focused on the sensitive restoration of the property’s historic features, while introducing contemporary amenities and bespoke joinery to create a modern family home.
The works involved the careful removal of non-original fabric throughout the apartment, including partitions, lowered ceilings, and existing joinery. This enabled the plan to be rationalised, maximising the available space while restoring the historic character and proportions of the original interiors. Historic floor-to-ceiling heights were reinstated throughout, celebrating the property’s generous volumes, open spaces, and high ceilings. Particular attention was given to the restoration of the traditional French doors, a distinctive feature throughout the residence. These were sensitively repaired to retain their original detailing and character, while improving their performance for contemporary use.
Contemporary elements were introduced through a carefully considered palette of bespoke joinery, fittings, and finishes. MWA’s Interiors team worked closely alongside the architectural team throughout the project, ensuring that each new intervention was cohesive with the wider scheme and complemented the retained historic features. The completed home creates a considered dialogue between old and new, a refined contemporary family home that honours the architectural heritage of the Grade II listed property.
