Welbeck Hampshire is the fourth project MWA have undertaken for the Welbeck brand, building on an established relationship and a detailed understanding of their clinical, operational, and spatial requirements. The project forms a new regional healthcare hub located within the South Downs National Park.
The design has been informed by a critical analysis of the site context and the specific demands of a sensitive landscape setting. Although the site lies outside the Winchester Conservation Area, the surrounding context is characterised by flint, brick, and limestone. The proposals respond directly to this material language, drawing on locally familiar materials to ensure the building sits comfortably within its rural setting. The massing strategy has been carefully developed to meet agreed height and area parameters, with bay articulation used to break down the scale of the building and respond to its setting.
MWA are coordinating closely with the established design team to develop proposals that align with the client’s capital expenditure requirements and the Welbeck brand. Particular emphasis has been placed on the arrival sequence and internal atrium, creating a clear, legible and welcoming environment for patients and visitors.
