MWA successfully completed the enlarging and improvement of a high quality family dwelling, located in a celebrated area of St. John's Wood. The proposal incorporates features designed to achieve an environmentally sustainable building – reducing the impact of the dwelling on the local environment, and minimising long term running costs.
The proposed works to the property are generally traditionally detailed, with great care taken to ensure dimensions and proportions reflect elements of the existing fabric. A glazed extension to the rear of the main house is an exception to this rule. Here, we have proposed a highly transparent structure through which the existing fabric is visible. This retains a strong distinction between old and new within the appearance of the rear façade.
