The pharmacy for London International Patients Services (LIPS) has opened in the iconic Grade II* Listed Battersea Power Station.
Construction of the LIPS Healthcare Centre began in January 2024 and Phase 01 is now complete. Phase 02, comprised of imaging, procedure, and diagnostics suites is progressing on site and is due to complete in Summer 2024. This medical centre is one of a kind, featuring a pharmacy offering both cosmetic and medical services, a clinic equipped with diagnostics and imaging facilities, minor procedure rooms, and dentistry services.
Given the historical significance of Battersea Power Station, we had to work within the constraints of the existing building fabric, heritage legislation, and the Battersea Power Station design guidance. Additionally, compliance with Health Building Notes was essential to ensure the facility met the Care Quality Commission and General Pharmaceutical Council requirements. This project leverages the historical features and materials of the building to create a high-end experience for patients.
The design draws inspiration from the building’s original features, particularly the retained exposed brickwork, steel structure, and faience tiles. The pharmacy and clinic flooring echoes the aesthetics of these tiles, while timber finishes complement the existing materials, creating a calming and comforting atmosphere for patients. The bespoke free-standing shelving units have been designed to maximise product display and positioned to enhance customer flow. The thoughtful selection of materials is evident in every detail, from wall finishes to upholstered seating.
The transformation of this space into a high-end medical centre not only respects the historical essence of Battersea Power Station but also sets a new standard for patient care environments. The combination of heritage elements with modern, sustainable design creates a unique and welcoming space for all who visit.
