      Site works have commenced at MWA’s newest urban renewal project at number 30 Old Street. The site is situated on the boundaries of both the St. Luke’s Conservation Area and the Hat and Feathers Conservation Area; immersed in the eclectic mix of design, materials and ornament, and a grid of narrow back-streets that make London’s East End so unique. In contrast, the 1960s commercial building currently sited at 30 Old Street offers no contribution to this character and lies vacant and unlet. MWA propose to strip away the building’s façade retaining only its steel and concrete skeleton as part of a residential conversion that shall provide eight, high-end residential apartments. The contemporary proposals using brick work, brass cladding and extensive glazing aim to enhance the character of the area by restoring the proportions of the town houses that once occupied the site. This ground-breaking conversion will be the first of its kind on Old Street.

                                John Kirk House has breathed life into a neglected Grade II listed property in the heart of the Bloomsbury Conservation Area. A series of unsympathetic, late 20th Century modifications had left a property which stood out from its neighbours due to its incongruous design and size. The design references the local Georgian vernacular, translating its proportions and hierarchies into a modern composition. Sustainable features ensure the development achieved a BREAAM ‘Very Good’ rating.
